Chow Nudges Down; 65% Disagree Toronto a Good Place to Retire
March 18, 2024 (Toronto, ON) – A new Liaison Strategies poll for the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC) shows Mayor Oliva Chow's approval rating continuing to drop - but only slightly.
Conducted from March 14-15, 2024, using interactive voice response technology, the poll surveyed 860 Toronto residents. The margin of error for the poll is +/- 3.34%, 19 times out of 20. Liaison is a member of the Canadian Insights Research Council (CRIC).
"Overall, 53% of Torontonians say they approve of Olivia Chow's mayoral performance. That's down 2 points from last month when she was at 55%," said David Valentin, Principal at Liaison Strategies.
"It's not the 16 point drop we saw last month and these numbers are within the survey margins of error, so it remains to be seen if this is the continuation of a downward slide or if her numbers are stabilizing."
"Chow is doing best in downtown Toronto (66% approval) and worst in Etobicoke (39% approval). Among seniors she is presently drawing even (44% approval vs 44% disapproval)."

"65% of Torontonians do not agree the city is a good place to retire, that number rises to 70% among seniors. Meanwhile, more say Toronto is a good place to raise kids than to own a dog, with men more likely than women to agree with the statements."
"It's very likely that cost of living, traffic, availability of daycare and perception of safety are influencing these numbers. A lot of Torontonians are not sure if the City is a good place to bike for transportation (19% not sure) - but there's no such doubt when it comes to driving a car (4% not sure). 44% disagree Toronto is a good place to bike, while 57% disagree Toronto is a good place to drive."
